Envato launched CodeCanyon

If you are a webdesigner you undoubtedly must have heard of the Envato Marketplaces. Most of the larger design blogs have Envato advertisement on them and their tutorial websites attract a massive amount of visitors each month.

The Envato Marketplaces sell internet stuff. This can be anything from a WordPress template to a XML driven Flash gallery.

It consists of 7 different marketplaces each devoted to it’s own expertise. (Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, HTML etc.)

They recently opened a new marketplace called CodeCanyon. Here you can buy small PHP, Javascript or ASP code snippets and programs.

You might think: “why would I pay for something that I can surely get on the internet for free?” Well, that’s totally up to you, but I believe that there are a couple of strong pro’s that might convince you to try them out anyway.

1. The price is a steal. Most scripts are solled for $8 or less. For that price you can certainly try out something new. Surely, Envato takes a huge percentage of the sale, but there are enough authors who make a 5 figure income from selling their stuff on Envatos marketplaces.

2. The code is simple, clean and structured. Since most authors want to keep support to a minimum and Envato has high standards, you can bet on it that it is easy to understand the code and that it is well documented.

3. The looks are fresh and up to standard. Fortunately the coders have taken over some of the Themeforest design principles and most scripts that have a GUI look nice and are easy to customize. Bare in mind that each script is validated by an authorized Envato member, so if you have a 1999 PHP script laying around somewhere, it probably isn’t going to be approved.

Down here you will find a couple of great scripts available on CodeCanyon.
